Default bloggingheads.tv - intellectual video blogs

http://bloggingheads.tv/

It is a rare thing to find good intellectual discussions online. This site is like an intellectual youtube in an improved format with split video between the two participants. I am sure the face-to-face format of these video blogs helps to discourage tardedness. Plus all of the participants are authors, professors, and other credentialed persons.

Go watch.

I generally watch one or two videos on here a week so I'll plug what I like.

John Horgan/George Johnson

They are both science writers. John Horgan had just seen Terminator and has been watching Battlestar Galactica so he was talking about those. In this episode he talks about how ideas in the movies relate to areas of Science. Topics are highly varied but they generally talk about new science stuff.

John Horgan referenced Peter Singer who wrote a book about killing machines the US military currently uses in Iraq and Afghanistan. Slate wanted John Horgan to write a piece on Terminator, but he passed off the opportunity to Peter Singer.

More on Peter Singer here.

The other guy on bloggingheads I like to watch is Will Wilkenson. He is a philosophy guy who works for a Liberterian think tank. He interviews philosophy people and anyone else. He's had a huge range of guests on and he's a decent interviewer.

I thought this one was particularly interesting where he interviewed Joseph Heath who is a philosopher/economist who wrote a book about economic fallacies.
